PRIMARY PREVENTION: AVOIDING NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES BY REDUCING EARLY LIFE EXPOSURES Developmental Origins of Health and NonCommunicable Diseases

چکیده
More than 35 million deaths per year—60 percent of all global deaths—are attributed to NCDs, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and chronic lung diseases.1 Approximately 80 percent of these deaths are recorded in low to middle income countries; over the next decade, some of these coun tries will experience an increase in NCDs that is measurably higher than the anticipated 17 percent average increase worldwide. NCDs create an im mense burden, affecting not only individuals and their families, but also economies and health care ser vices. The United Nations General Assembly, in recognition of the impact of NCDs, recently held an international summit to devise strategies to control the risk of NCDs.

Realizing the Potential of Adolescence to Prevent Transgenerational Conditioning of Noncommunicable Disease Risk: Multi-Sectoral Design Frameworks
Evidence from the field of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) demonstrates that early life environmental exposures impact later-life risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This has revealed the transgenerational nature of NCD risk, thus demonstrating that interventions to improve environmental exposures during early life offer important potential for primary prevention of DO...
متن کاملThe importance of early life in childhood obesity and related diseases: a report from the 2014 Gravida Strategic Summit
Obesity and its related non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer, impose huge burdens on society, particularly the healthcare system. Until recently, public health and policy were primarily focused on secondary prevention and treatment of NCDs. However, epidemiological and experimental evidence indicates that early-life exposures influence the risk of ...
متن کاملDevelopmental origins of non-communicable disease: Implications for research and public health
This White Paper highlights the developmental period as a plastic phase, which allows the organism to adapt to changes in the environment to maintain or improve reproductive capability in part through sustained health. Plasticity is more prominent prenatally and during early postnatal life, i.e., during the time of cell differentiation and specific tissue formation. These developmental periods ...
متن کاملReadiness, Availability and Utilization of Rural Vietnamese Health Facilities for Community Based Primary Care of Non-communicable Diseases: A Cross-Sectional Survey of 3 Provinces in Northern Vietnam
Background Vietnam’s network of commune health centers (CHCs) have historically managed acute infectious diseases and implemented national disease-specific vertical programs. Vietnam has undergone an epidemiological transition towards non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Limited data exist on Vietnamese CHC capacity to prevent, diagnose, and treat NCDs. In this paper, we assess NCD service r...
متن کاملAssociation of Exposure to Fine Particulate Matter and Risk Factors of Non-Communicable Diseases in Children and Adolescents
Background: Risk factors of non-communicable disease (NCD) origin from early life, and exposure to environmental pollutant may be a predisposing factor. This study aimed to investigate the association of air quality index (AQI) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) with some NCD risk factors in a sample of Iranian children and adolescents. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was con...
